The FirstLight Community Foundation is pleased to announce its 2022 scholarship award recipients, increasing its funding to $25,000 dollars.  More than 300 submissions were made from the El Paso, Fort Bliss and Las Cruces communities — representing more than 50 schools from Texas and New Mexico. The foundation increased its funding from $19,000 to $25,000 through grassroots fundraising initiatives.

“We are proud to support students from our region and help contribute to their success,” said FirstLight Federal Credit Union President and CEO, Karl Murphy. “Our volunteer foundation board is thankful to the students, parents, guardians and school administrators for their participation and involvement,” continued Mr. Murphy.

This year fifteen community scholarships and ten FirstLight Federal Credit Union dependent scholarships were awarded, for a total of twenty-five $1,000 dollar scholarships.

“Through our inaugural golf tournament in October of 2021, we surpassed our fundraising goals and were able to increase the number of scholarships from the previous year,” said FirstLight Federal Credit Union Senior VP of Marketing & Community Impact, Anthony T. Walker. “Our volunteers and employees work to continually build awareness, sponsorships and in-kind donations to support our area scholars,” added Mr. Walker.
